Calculate the hours and minutes between two times โ instantly.
Add multiple time ranges to calculate total hours worked.
The Hours Calculator helps you find the difference between two times, add or subtract time from a start time, and total up work hours across multiple shifts. It handles overnight time spans automatically.
Choose a tab. Time Difference takes a start time and an end time and gives you the gap in hours, minutes and decimal hours. Tick the overnight box if the shift crosses midnight. Add/Subtract Time takes a start time and a duration and returns the resulting clock time โ useful for "if I leave now, when will I arrive?" math. Weekly Work Hours sums up to seven daily shifts with optional unpaid breaks subtracted, then displays the weekly total in hours and decimal hours for payroll forms.
Most payroll software multiplies a decimal hours figure by an hourly rate, not "8 hours 15 minutes". To convert: divide the minutes by 60. So 8h 15m becomes 8.25 hours, 7h 45m becomes 7.75, and 6h 20m becomes 6.33. The calculator does this for you in every result. Half an hour is always 0.5 โ never 0.30 โ and that's where most manual timesheet errors creep in. The decimal value is what you put on an invoice or a contractor timesheet.
Filling out timesheets, working out gig totals as a freelancer, splitting shifts between roommates or co-parents, planning sleep schedules ("if I go to bed at 11:30 and want 8 hoursโฆ"), recording study sessions, or tallying volunteer hours for grant reporting.
